Format/Rules


AGES FOR COMPETITION

Competitor’s age for the Missouri State Senior Games will be determined by the athlete’s age as of December 31 of the current year.  The following age divisions will apply to both men and women for all individual and doubles competitions: 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85-89; 90-94; 95-99; and 100+.


BASKETBALL—AROUND THE WORLD SHOOTING  - EVENT RULES

  1. Contestants must use the official ball furnished by the Missouri State Senior Games.  Women will shoot the smaller ball (28 ½ inch circumference) used in women’s competition and Men will shoot the standard size ball.
  2. The basket will be 10 feet in height.
  3. Each shooter will get 5 practice shots (one from each of the 5 designated spots) and 15 official shots (3 consecutively at each of the 5 spots on the floor).
  4. The shooter must stand behind the designated shooting line for his/her age group.  At no time shall the shooter touch the floor beyond the line until after the shot is released or it will count as a failed attempt.
  5. The shooting distances shall be as follows:
    • Men 50-74 (19 feet 9 inches)
    • Men 75+ (15 feet)
    • Women 50-74 (17 feet)
    • Women 75+ (13 feet)
  6. Each shooter will get only one chance to attempt his/her shots.
  7. The object is to make the most possible shots.
  8. In case of a tie, the player with the most consecutive successful shots will be declared the winner.  If a tie still remains, duplicated awards will be given.  When a tie is broken by the most consecutive successful shots, the final posted results will show the tied contestants’ total number of successful shots followed by the most consecutive successful shots they made.

BASKETBALL—FREE THROW SHOOTING - EVENT RULES

  4. The shooter must stand behind the free throw line, which is located 15 feet from the backboard.  At no time shall the shooter touch the floor beyond the line until the shot is released or it will be counted as a failed attempt.
  5. Each shooter will get only one chance to attempt his/her free throws.
  6. The object is to make the most possible free throws.
  7. In case of a tie, the player with the most consecutive successful free throw attempt will be declared the winner.  If a tie still remains, duplicate awards will be given.  When a tie is broken by the most consecutive successful shots, the final posted results will show the tied contestants’ total number of successful shots followed by the most consecutive shots they made.

FOOTBALL THROW FOR ACCURACY FORMAT

  1. MEN will throw an “Intermediate” size football.  WOMEN will throw a “Junior” size football.
  2. The short throws shall be taken first.
  3. Five (5) consecutive throws will be made by each contestant from the following distances:
    • Women: 7 and 10 yards
    • Men 8 and 12 yards
  4. The target will be the opening in a 25-inch ring, the center of which will be 5 feet off the ground.
  5. Nine (9) points will be awarded for each throw from the 7 and the 8-yard line that goes through the target.
  6. Twenty (20) points will be awarded for each throw from the 10 and the 12-yard line that goes through the target.
  7. The object of the event is to score the highest possible number of points.
  8. A foot fault call by the official will automatically nullify the throw.
  9. One practice throw will be allowed from each distance.  The player must announce beforehand if they are taking a practice throw or throwing for a score.
  10. In case of a tie, the contestant accumulating the most points from the longer distance will be declared the winner.   If the tie still remains, the contestant with the most consecutive successful throws will be declared the winner.  When a tie is broken by the most consecutive successful throws, the final posted results will show the tied contestants’ total scores followed by the number for successful throws they made in succession.

FOOTBALL THROW FOR DISTANCE FORMAT

  1. MEN will throw an “Intermediate” size football.  WOMEN will throw a “Junior” size football.

  3. One warm-up throw will be allowed.
  4. TWO (2) consecutive throws will be made and the longest throw will be recorded.
  5. A foot fault called by the official will automatically nullify the throw.
  6. If a ball lands outside the foul lines, it will be charged as a throw, but will not count for distance.
  7. In the case of a tie, duplicate awards will be presented.
  8. The distance of the throw will be measured perpendicular to the throwing line, not diagonal.

SOFTBALL THROW FOR ACCURACY FORMAT   (12” Softball)

  1. Five (5) consecutive throws will be made by each contestant from the following distances:
    • WOMEN:  7 & 10 yards
    • MEN:  8 & 12 yards
  2. The target will be the opening in a 25-inch ring, the center of which will be 5 feet off the ground.
