Format/Rules
Majority Rules:
- Reorder marks: the marks are re-ordered (lowest mark first and continuing to the highest mark) for all judges. The middle mark is first considered for all contestants and is called the majority mark. The lowest middle mark is 1st place, etc. If there are two competitors with the same middle mark, go to rule #2 (1st tiebreaker).
- 1st tiebreaker-majority size: how many numbers to the right of middle equal to or greater than the majority. The lowest majority size is the better placement. For example, if scores are (1,2,3,4,5), there are 2 marks to the right of three, so majority size is 2. If the marks are (2,2,3,3,4), majority size is 1. For marks (3,3,3,3,3) majority size is 0. All have majority mark 3.
- 2nd tiebreaker-majority sum: number(s) to the left of middle are added together. (1,2,3,4,5) has majority sum of 3. (2,2,3,4,5) has majority sum of 4, (2,3,3,4,5) has majority sum of 5. Lowest majority sum is the better placement.
- 3rd tiebreaker-look ahead: number(s) to the right of middle. (1,2,3,4,4) has look ahead of 4,4. (1,2,3,4,5) has a look ahead of 4,5. Columns are compared left to right for smallest number.
- 4th tiebreaker-look back: number(s) to the left of middle. (1,3,3,4,5) has look back of 1,3. (2,2,3,4,5) has a look back of 2,2. Columns are compared left to right for smallest number.
- If still tied, the marks are identical and placement is split between competitors for that dance.
- Overall (for individuals, not teams): aggregate value (add placements for dances up)
- 1st Tiebreaker: head to head comparison for dances (wins, losses, ties)
- 2nd Tiebreaker in overall: head to head comparison for all judge marks
The Judges will evaluate the following categories:
- Delivery of dance (musicality and the sequence of steps)
- Execution (balance, posture, mobility)
- Showmanship (styling, performance)
Team Rules:
There are four categories in the Teams division. Teams select their own music and assemble a medley. Teams must be three or more people. Age Divisions are 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. The age of the team is determined by the age of the youngest team member. In Teams, synchronization, musicality, and formation changes are all of importance.
- Team Line Dance Classic Country must use 100% country music and 100% line dance. In Classic Line Dance competition, dancers are evenly spaced in lines. Classic Country rules are quite strict and do not allow any floor work or acrobatics.
- Team Line Open can use any music, 100% line dance, and may use props.
- Team Cabaret can use any music, any combination of line and/or couples dancing, has more relaxed movement limitations and may use props.
- Team International is for demonstration of dancing indigenous to a country. There are no costume, music, or movement limitations.
If a team is being judged, the following two categories are added:
- Music Choice
- Choreography (changes in position, lines)
Each of the judges will mark 1-5 for each category.
- Great job on that category
- Good
- Maybe or inconsistent
- Occasionally the category was accomplished
- Competitor/team did not get that category
The numbers will be analyzed using the majority rules scoring format (skating system).
